 Pretty pendant, hefty priceJan 08, 2012

First of all, this is the most detailed crucifix/cross pendant that I could see between Amazon (item is however from and shipped by Jewelry Days, not Amazon) and my local jewelers, it looks great. And after receiving and returning another crucifix pendant because of its small size and cheaper appearance overall, I figured the dimensions stated on this pendant were fine, they were.
I'll get to real-life and picture comparisons in a moment.
Upon receiving the pendant, I took it to a jewelry center to purchase a chain for it. The clasp is not big, which I like, and was able to (just comfortably) fit a 2mm white gold franco chain (without widening the clasp) which complimented the look.
They did tell me however, along with a jeweler's exchange shop I visited right after, about the price-to-weight ratio of the pendant and that what I was charged was unreasonable- Basically, for the stated 2.5 grams, the pendant should have been AT LEAST $150 cheaper, even given the design (piece is $400+ at time of this writing). Though the weight is thankfully stated on the product page, I was not knowledgeable when purchasing white gold items at the time. I was told that with white-gold, you're ultimately paying for the weight of the piece. I felt like a fool, but even still, what the jewelry stores around me and amazon's page had instead couldn't impress me. After all, the weight-price issue was not what almost deferred me.
Now onto the comparisons between what you see on the product page, and what you'll receive.
Most important fact noted that stood out- the white gold on the front of the cross is brushed including the INRI section, which deceived me from the picture shown. This gives it a dull, and in my opinion, aluminum look (not necessarily cheap look, but still noticeable and unexpected) compared to the rest of the shiny piece (and it doesn't look less odd with the shiny white-gold chain, either). The actual Jesus figure, the four edges of the cross, the clasp, and the entire back of the cross are not brushed. This means they maintain that shine and consistency of a white-gold appearance all-around (excluding the front of the cross), as the image on the product page appeared to show. For the price, these facts including the weight of the piece were unacceptable to me at first. However, as mentioned, I was hard-pressed to find a more detailed yet classic looking crucifix pendant online or around my area that made me as comfortable to consider buying, price aside.
It is a beautiful pendant, illusory not on the description stated on the page, but in its image (as most online purchases of this magnitude are), and I will be keeping it. But lesson learned- I definitely am never buying a piece of jewelry online (based on initial looks/impressions) again, without satisfiable information beforehand.

My son is a seminarian and had a very short time home and we wanted to get him a very special gift for completing his first 2 years in the seminary. We ordered the crucifix, but we weren't sure if we'd receive it on time. I made a request to see if they could get it here before he left and they went above and beyond the call of duty by sending it express. It arrived just in time before he had to leave overseas.
